Category Archives: Awesome Music!

Every once in a while, an artist comes along who just completely dominates an instrument in a way that makes it absolutely irresistible to the listener. Ben Sollee is that virtuoso. His amazing pwnage with the cello coupled with his bluesy voice is an awesome combination. One that I will be personally enjoying live tomorrow night! Ben Sollee performs in Knoxville and I will be there. To commemorate this momentous occasion, here’s one of his songs from the album Learning to Bend

Enjoy y’all! Happy Bending?!

(Lyrics)

Well, teach me baby
Oh Lord, yes, a little show-and-tell
How to keep from loving you
Now should I fence in my heart baby
Lord, keep it in the shade
Give it all the fruit it could want
Except yours

Teach me baby, well, one more time
Just exactly how far you are away
Should I start walking now baby
When in the day
You know i don’t need no map
Yes, i’ll find my way

Teach me baby, oh, i promise i’ll get it this time
How to hold a bird in my hand and watch it grow
See those feathers bloom
But don’t let it fly
Even though that’s what it’s supposed to do

Teach me baby, mmm, one last time
How to see the sun rise
In the dead of night
Oh, cos that’s how it feels baby
Cos you don’t feel that way too

So…This one kinda fell into my lap. I was on this website (www.musicemissions.com) a long time ago checking out music, and came across a band called Broken Social Scene. Despite their emo sounding name, I decided to check it out so I bought their CD, and my God! what a CD it was. I absolutely hated it like the first couple listens-through. Yet, I guess something just kept me going back to it. Maybe it was the crazy organized chaos feel that Broken Social Scene is best known for, but I was hooked and I didn’t even know it. After a couple listens in the car, I couldn’t stop listening to the entire thing. It then became the first CD of mine to frequent my stereo and have me not skip a single song, and even though every one of the tracks has something amazing to offer, the one that really stuck with me these last 5 years is a song called Almost Crimes. It’s a fast-paced, he-said-she-said type of indie rock song that just epitomizes a certain feeling. Like the feeling you get when you are doing something ridiculous and stupid with your best friends andlaughing the entire time. The music video for this is an excellent representation of it too.

.

So…listen to this song and just go crazy! Happy Rocking!

So everyone knows Coldplay right? if not then maybe you should start off on some basic music blogs before trying your hand at this one. Anyhoo, what everyone doesn’t know is that Coldplay’s old stuff is really good as well, especially the song Shiver.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with this song. I just think it’s absolutely fantastic. The driving guitar parts to the lead singer’s sweet falsettos just get my blood going. The best is driving on the highway slightly faster than the speed limit with the windows down and this song blaring through the speakers. Although I’ve been a Coldplay fan for a couple of years now I didn’t come across this song until I was pillaging through my little sister’s iTunes library, but man, once I found it, it was on. Love the song, and you should too so listen to it! and check out this dude’s acoustic cover too…found him on youtube and I dare say he’s almost as good as the original. Happy Playing

So I got turned onto the band Mae because of my first love, Stephanie. Actually, she turned me onto a ton of awesome music and changed my life forever but that would be beside the point of this blog. Anyways, I started listening to Mae in high school and I’ve grown to really love them (their old stuff anyways…their new  stuff isn’t as good). The song that I really fell in love with is a song called Tisbury Lane. The first time I heard it was at Stephanie’s place. I forget exactly why I was there but I remember that it was morning and I was waiting for her to get ready so we could go somewhere. She always loved listening to music while she was getting ready, and she played this one and started singing along with it. Somehow, right then and there it turned into one of the most awesome moments that Stephanie and I shared…although I doubt she remembers LOL (she’s kinda forgetful about stuff like that now a days). The song playing softly on Stephanie’s ghetto sound system in her messy room just…for the lack of a better cliche…completed the moment. So there it is. Tisbury Lane by Mae. Go listen to it, preferably on a drizzly morning with someone you care about. I promise it’ll be nice. Happy Listening then.

This is a pretty good album although I suggest checking out Destination: Beautiful which is their best album in my opinion

So I was watching TV one day…surprise surprise…and this dentyne ice commercial came on with trippy animated-type graphics with a frog and a princess. Here’s the link anyhooz…I was like mmkay I’m digging this…then like 19 seconds into it the chorus starts on the song and I fell in love instantly with the song Stuttering by Ben’s Brother. So being the awesome pirate I am (yargh!), I limewired the crap out of this song and started listening to it nonstop, and it has been one of my all-time favorite songs since.

I freakin’ love everything about this song. Startng from the awesome yet simple guitar riffs (and the solo) to the ingeniously awesome lyrics and how it all comes together musically. So two thumbs up for the song and I recommend it to anyone who’s ever stut stut stut stut stuttered in front of  someone he/she has had a crush on. Or anyone else who’s interested. Happy Stuttering!

(Lyrics)

[Verse 1:]
It’s been, it’s been, it’s been, it’s been
su-su-such a long time, long time, long time
since anybody touched me, touched me, touched me
the way that you touch me
So if I stutter, stutter, stutter
and I feel so so so unsexy
so maybe I’ll just keep my mouth shut at least until you kiss me

[Chorus:]
So kiss me again
Cause only you can stop this stut-stut-stut-stuttering
Kiss me again
And ease my su-su su-su su-su s-su-s-suffering

[Verse 2:]
I know I know
it’s so it’s so sy-sy-symbolic of everything
Everything that’s wrong with me and you
So tell me what I’m supposed to do
Oh it’s been ages since we’ve been really honest

but I can make ch-ch-ch-changes if you really want this

[Chorus]
So kiss me again
Cause only you can stop this stut-stut-stut-stuttering
Kiss me again
And ease my su-su su-su su-su s-su-s-suffering

Kiss me again
Cause only you can stop this stut-stut-stut-stut-stuttering
Kiss me again
And ease my su-su su-su su-su s-su-s-suffering

Mmkay so here it is.

Lovefool by The Cardigans

This poppy, indie song by the Swedish band, The Cardigans is simply amazing. I first came across this song when I was looking for good love songs to put on a mix cd I was making for a girl, but that’s a whole other story. This song captured my attention immediately. If I remember correctly, I felt like I’d heard it before somewhere in passing, and it’s familiarity only added to the incredibly sweet and sexy charm of Nina Persson’s (the lead singer) voice.

I can’t stand to be silent when I’m driving. So most of the times, I’ll have a CD in the stereo and sing along at the top of my lungs usually, and whenever this song comes on (track 3 I believe in the mix cd I made for that girl…I kept a copy too). I try to sing along with it too cuz it’s so damn catchy, especially the chorus. It’s not a pretty sight as I try to hit those high notes with my awkward falsetto but it’s hell of a lot of fun and you can’t help but feel happy listening to this song. so I say give it a go. Pop it into your stereo and sing along. Happy singing!

(Lyrics)
Dear, I fear we’re facing a problem
you love me no longer, I know
and maybe there is nothing that I can do
to make you do

Mama tells me I shouldn’t bother
that I ought to stick to another man
a man that surely deserves me
but I think you do!

So I cry, I pray and I beg

Love me love me
say that you love me
fool me fool me
go on and fool me
love me love me
pretend that you love me
leave me leave me
just say that you need me
Love me love me
say that you love me
leave me leave me
just say that you need me
I can’t care ’bout anything but you…

Lately I have desperately pondered,
spent my nights awake and I wonder
what I could have done in another way
to make you stay
Reason will not lead to solution
I will end up lost in confusion
I don’t care if you really care
as long as you don’t go

Mmkay…here’s the premise…I’m going to write about a song every post, hopefully with the mp3 streaming so I can share some good music and how it affects me and blah blah blah. Hopefully it’ll turn out well so here goes.

First song of the blog!

Mardy Bum by Arctic Monkeys

I first heard this song while working in Hollister in Knoxville. It was one of the few songs on the playlist at the store that was actually quite decent, and I could sing along with. One of the traits that i love in music, being able to sing along. Anyhoos, I liked it pretty much immediately and since I heard it almost constantly (those of you who’ve worked in a store like Hollister know what I’m talking about) it grew on me quickly. The chilled and relaxed feel of the guitar riffs fit into the Hollister vibe, but something about the British accent combined with the unique and captivating lyrics create the basis for an awesome song that’s catchy and relaxing which to me is a recipe for an instant favorite. So enjoy.

(Here are the lyrics)

Well now then Mardy Bum
I’ve seen your frown
And it’s like looking down the barrel of a gun
And it goes off
And out come all these words
Oh there’s a very pleasant side to you
A side I much prefer
It’s one that laughs and jokes around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it’s right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you’re all argumentative
And you’ve got the face on

Well now then Mardy Bum
Oh I’m in trouble again, aren’t I
I thought as much
Cause you turned over there
Pulling that silent disappointment face
The one that I can’t bear

Why can’t we just laugh and joke around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it’s right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you’re all argumentative
And you’ve got the face on

And yeah I’m sorry I was late
but I missed the train
And then the traffic was a state
And I can’t be arsed to carry on in this debate
That reoccurs, oh when you say I don’t care
but of course I do, yet I clearly do!

So laugh and joke around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it’s right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you’re all argumentative
And you’ve got the face on
