Easy like monday morning?

So…I was going to post this yesterday but I was too tired and ended up deferring it, and now it isn’t as apropos but oh well it’ll do. An old Commodore‘s song covered by the incredible 80′s rock band Faith No More called “Easy” will be the topic of recommendation for today. I first heard this song in a Levi’s commercial(starts like 4 secs into it) and it immediately called out to me. The gritty voice of the lead singer Mike Patton is an incredibly appealing force when combined with the bluesy guitar solo and the simple yet homey sound of the keyboard. It kinda sounds like i’m talking out of my ass but i can’t really help it lol. something about this song just kinda rocks me to my core so i’d best advise anyone to just check it out and see if they get the same response as well.

i wasnt meaning to continue on with the cover song theme but i just couldn’t help it. When I logged onto youtube, this video was waiting for me under my subscription to the fabulous Jamie Cullum, and boy was i glad. Not only is Mr. Cullum’s cover mind-blowingly awesome, the video for it adds a certain James Bond (exploding piano FTW!) like charm to the entire experience. It’s rare for me to actually watch a music video especially all the way through not because i don’t enjoy the artistic quality of it but cuz i prefer to listen to music as a stand-alone. However, this music video just drew me in. The mesmerizing close ups of the inner works accompanied by the soothing yet edgy voice of Jamie is just indescribable so i urge everyone to go take a gander. enjoy.

I love covers. It’s kind of a music fetish of mine when a great band/singer can take someone else’s song and make it their own, whether it be remaining true to the original or mutating into something completely different altogether. Some of my favorites off the top of my head are Bitches Ain’t Shit by Ben Folds; Hey Ya by Obadiah Parker, Crazy by Ray Lamontagne, This Charming Man by Death Cab for Cutie; etc. and so on goes the list. However! Today I will share one that i just heard like ten minutes ago and inspired me to write this post. It’s not so much that this song is exceptional or life-changing or anything. It just happened to fit in perfectly with how I feel this exact moment and whatnot so here it is. With or Without You by U2 covered by Keane. Enjoy.

So it’s rare that a band makes me feel so ambiguous but Ra Ra Riot seems to have managed that feat quite easily. At first listen, my initial reaction was WTF. I couldn’t decide whether I liked it or not. The strange reminiscence resounding from the unique sound of the band that uses driving violin riffs and mesmerizing bass lines certainly creates an interesting musical nuance that’s not exactly for everyone but almost everyone is bound to enjoy at least one song by this amazingly talented band. Mmkay…so here’s the breakdown…for the past few weeks i’ve been computer-less since my laptop crashed randomly. by randomly i mean after being smacked by a very angry and annoyed joseph and having frozen on me during a badass episode of Chuck season 2…anyhoos so i finally got a new laptop and now am about to rock your world once again with glorious music. The choice of arms this time is Tiesto featuring the lovely Priscilla Ahn, and believe me this, it’s a match made in heaven. Every once in a while, an artist comes along who just completely dominates an instrument in a way that makes it absolutely irresistible to the listener. Ben Sollee is that virtuoso. His amazing pwnage with the cello coupled with his bluesy voice is an awesome combination. One that I will be personally enjoying live tomorrow night! Ben Sollee performs in Knoxville and I will be there. To commemorate this momentous occasion, here’s one of his songs from the album Learning to Bend

So…This one kinda fell into my lap. I was on this website (www.musicemissions.com) a long time ago checking out music, and came across a band called Broken Social Scene. Despite their emo sounding name, I decided to check it out so I bought their CD, and my God! what a CD it was. I absolutely hated it like the first couple listens-through. Yet, I guess something just kept me going back to it. Maybe it was the crazy organized chaos feel that Broken Social Scene is best known for, but I was hooked and I didn’t even know it. After a couple listens in the car, I couldn’t stop listening to the entire thing. It then became the first CD of mine to frequent my stereo and have me not skip a single song, and even though every one of the tracks has something amazing to offer, the one that really stuck with me these last 5 years is a song called Almost Crimes. It’s a fast-paced, he-said-she-said type of indie rock song that just epitomizes a certain feeling. Like the feeling you get when you are doing something ridiculous and stupid with your best friends andlaughing the entire time. The music video for this is an excellent representation of it too.

So…listen to this song and just go crazy! Happy Rocking!

So everyone knows Coldplay right? if not then maybe you should start off on some basic music blogs before trying your hand at this one. Anyhoo, what everyone doesn’t know is that Coldplay’s old stuff is really good as well, especially the song Shiver.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with this song. I just think it’s absolutely fantastic. The driving guitar parts to the lead singer’s sweet falsettos just get my blood going. The best is driving on the highway slightly faster than the speed limit with the windows down and this song blaring through the speakers. Although I’ve been a Coldplay fan for a couple of years now I didn’t come across this song until I was pillaging through my little sister’s iTunes library, but man, once I found it, it was on. Love the song, and you should too so listen to it! and check out this dude’s acoustic cover too…found him on youtube and I dare say he’s almost as good as the original. Happy Playing

Take a walk down Tisbury Lane

So I got turned onto the band Mae because of my first love, Stephanie. Actually, she turned me onto a ton of awesome music and changed my life forever but that would be beside the point of this blog. Anyways, I started listening to Mae in high school and I’ve grown to really love them (their old stuff anyways…their new stuff isn’t as good). The song that I really fell in love with is a song called free music download ">Tisbury Lane. The first time I heard it was at Stephanie’s place. I forget exactly why I was there but I remember that it was morning and I was waiting for her to get ready so we could go somewhere. She always loved listening to music while she was getting ready, and she played this one and started singing along with it. Somehow, right then and there it turned into one of the most awesome moments that Stephanie and I shared…although I doubt she remembers LOL (she’s kinda forgetful about stuff like that now a days). The song playing softly on Stephanie’s ghetto sound system in her messy room just…for the lack of a better cliche…completed the moment. So there it is. Tisbury Lane by Mae. Go listen to it, preferably on a drizzly morning with someone you care about. I promise it’ll be nice. Happy Listening then.

This is a pretty good album although I suggest checking out Destination: Beautiful which is their best album in my opinion

So I was watching TV one day…surprise surprise…and this dentyne ice commercial came on with trippy animated-type graphics with a frog and a princess. Here’s the link anyhooz…I was like mmkay I’m digging this…then like 19 seconds into it the chorus starts on the song and I fell in love instantly with the song Stuttering by Ben’s Brother. So being the awesome pirate I am (yargh!), I limewired the crap out of this song and started listening to it nonstop, and it has been one of my all-time favorite songs since.

I freakin’ love everything about this song. Startng from the awesome yet simple guitar riffs (and the solo) to the ingeniously awesome lyrics and how it all comes together musically. So two thumbs up for the song and I recommend it to anyone who’s ever stut stut stut stut stuttered in front of someone he/she has had a crush on. Or anyone else who’s interested. Happy Stuttering!
